EDUARDO GARRIDO (Granada, Spain 1975)


Praised by The New York Times, Eduardo Garrido is considered as one of the most acomplished european composers-guitarists of his generation. He graduated with honors in the Royal Conservatory of Madrid, in 2001.


Studied guitar with Gabriel Estarellas and José Miguel Martínez, as well as analysis and composition with Antón García Abril, José Manuel Fernández and privately with the great guitarist and composer Dusan Bogdanovic. Several encounters with the cuban Maestro Leo Brouwer, throughout numerous courses and seminaries, it’s essential for his artistic career.


He appears like author and performer in prestigious cycles and festivals in Europe, as well as in Mexico, Ecuador, Canada, Cuba and the USA. Also is invited regularly like jury in International Competitions. Their works for guitar has a great diffusion, and are in the repertoire of outstanding performers like Martha Masters, Juan Carlos Laguna, Kevin Manderville, Jacob Cordover, Dieter Hennings, Cristiano Porqueddu, Francisco Bernier, “Guitamboure” Duo, “3-XXI” Trio, “Aranjuez” Guitar Quartet, “Terpsícore” Guitar Quartet or “Contemporary” Ensemble.


In 2006 he obtained 1st. Prize in the I Guitar Composition Competition “Ciudad de Badajoz” (Spain) with the work “Pies para qué los quiero si tengo alas pa’ volar”, a tribute to the mexican painter Frida Kahlo premiered by the spanish virtuoso Ricardo Gallén, and recorded by the portuguese guitarist Júlio Guerreiro.

 

He actually lives in Mexico, working as an independent composition and guitar teacher, having developed several projects in festivals and events in most of the states of the country, as well as in Mexico City (Superior School of Music of the National Institute of Fine Arts and Music Faculty of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, UNAM).


He was Chair of Music Department in the New School for the Arts of the CCU Tlatelolco (UNAM), and in the Music School of León, Guanajuato (Mexico).
He has contributed to the careers of young exponents of the mexican guitar, some of which are today outstanding performers, like Vladimir Ibarra, Mario Quintanilla, Alan Juárez, Carlos Rivero, María José Cardoso, Rafael Antonio Segura, Missael Fragoso, René Moreno or Carlos Iván Reyes.
He was founding and general manager of the Cycle of Guitar Recitals and Masterclasses “Variaciones para Guitarra”, that was developed in the old district of San Juan de Dios of the city of Leon, from October 2013 to May 2014, 1st. event of this type in that city. At the present time he is artistic director of “Encuentro Nacional de Guitarra de Xochimilco” and musical director of the Young Guitar Ensemble of the same district, in Mexico City.


Famous Puerto Rican composer Ernesto Cordero, said about him: “Eduardo Garrido, in addition to being a distinguished performer of the guitar, is also a great scholar of his instrument and its music. This artist, through his trajectory has demonstrated to a praiseworthy preoccupation by the diffusion of the work of his colleagues guitarists and composers. Like in his person, we felt in his work a full sonorous speech of intensity and creativity”.
